Sobering
Sobering to see how much the Lake has gone down in the three weeks we've been away. Sobering to feel how hot it already was early in the morning. Sobering to know that both drought and heat and wildfires have definitely got worse just in our six years in the Alentejo.
Was writing about this, then Aduro walked over my laptop and deleted it, so not going to repeat it, but just to say, worth reading what this Blipper says here, and what Monbiot says here.
I agree, but I have not lost hope because I believe that the God who created this beautiful world with so much love for us, will one day, somehow, redeem it and us. Meanwhile, to live as well as we can and to love others as much as we can... which isn't always easy to figure out. Mike and I keep discussing whether we should live near our family so we don't have to travel to see them, for example...
Anyway, my gratefuls for today:
- hanging out in the cinema in Évora after shopping done, for a bit of cool, watched another Portuguese film, "O Pai Tirano", a remake of a classic 1941 film; have to admit that a lot of the humour was lost on us, but always worthwhile to understand a bit more of Portuguese culture, plus it was bliss to feel cool for a while
- spreading five 50 litre bags of soil out on our patio, feels like cheating, but it needs a bit of help after the time without water while we were away, and we're not making soil fast enough
- chat with the family re a clip from "The Matrix", whether we'd take the red pill or the blue; very relevant to the climate disaster, I think
