A find!

Well , a little one- ie a lesser sandpiper. Went back to Pea Island this time for a walk around the nature trails, but the wind was really awful and the most frequent birds were the great egrets , but at such a distance it wasn't worth trying for a photo. The often seen there killdeer were present and one pelican. Caught a brief glimpse of a common tern and saw several  smaller others wheel by but was unable to see the head for an ID. These guys were hanging out with a killdeer on the lawn next to the ponds. Pleasant to see the peeps.
The wind was so bad my husband and dtr had to stand blocking it so the lens could be stable enough to shoot ( at 1/1600). We tried to go over to the beach to continue walking but it  literally felt like we were being sand blasted . I had to shower to get all the sand off my neck and legs. There weren't any birds at all on the beach there. Lots of pelicans , a few osprey , some bank swallows purple martins and the ever-present laughing gulls on the beach here at Kill Devil Hills.Oh and several royal terns , one of which caught a fish while we were watching.
We didn't get in the water for long as it was rougher and about 65 degrees again today. Lots of thunderstorms with spectacular lightening tonight.
