Duck weather
Enlarge this photo to see the waves of 45 degree rain blasting across the property. What a day!
Still, it's better than yesterday's forecast suggested. Yes it's very wet (more than 30mm in the last 17 hours) but nothing like as much of a deluge as expected. The rain radar is showing a surprising gap in the downpours right over us. It's torrential to the north and to the south, but right now we are in an area of wind-blown drizzle.
Nevertheless it is due to be wet for at least another 24 hours. And it won't all be drizzle.
The bird was bought at the Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast when I lived nearby - sometime in the mid-Noughties. I rather like its spiderwebs and the slowly rusting tail. The glass body has survived three house moves, numerous frosts and a couple of falls from its moorings.
Bean is prone in front of the potbelly stove. The hens are cuddled up together out of the weather in their open-sided shed - and they each laid an egg as usual this morning. I've been enjoying the armchair and one of my library books most of the morning.
Soon I shall drag out the initially-resistant dog for a bracing walk. We both need the exercise. We will both be waterproofed.
There is hot pumpkin and lentil curry with chapatis for dinner. Perfect winter food.
