Living my dream

First blossoms

I took far too many photos today and it’s been difficult to pick a blip. The final decision was this cheerful flowering currant blossom spotted on Cape Wanbrow this morning.

I need cheerful. There is another deluge bearing down on us and the next couple of days look wetter than anything we’ve had so far this winter - if the forecasters have got their models right.

Consequently I have spent the afternoon scurrying around preparing Chez Mima for 48 hours of heavy rain.

The chook feeder hopper is topped up.
The firewood bin next to the potbelly is overflowing.
The surface drainage ditches across the drive have been re-dug out and cleared of leaves.
I had a bonfire of cabbage tree leaves which were all over the drive and would have whooshed down ad blocked those ditches. (See the extra.)
The hen run has new drainage ditches dug so that the girls won’t be in a total quagmire.
The overflow hose on the rainwater tanks is attached ready to deposit excess water where it will do no harm.
A big pumpkin, lentil and coconut curry is ready to give me energy and warmth.

Bean and I had a couple of walks this morning when we dashed into town to stock up on milk and library books. The creeks are still running high from last week’s rain, so it’s almost inevitable that floods will close roads tomorrow and Wednesday.

I think I’m ready…
