The Catcher in the Rye

Betsy does love to inhabit any book she is reading, and at the moment, it is The Catcher in the Rye. She asked me what a hunting hat is, so I described it, and said they are usually red and black check, with flaps that you can pull down over the ears. Later she found this old hat of Al's and has now adopted it as her Holden Caulfield hat.

Over-excited by the appearance of the sunshine earlier in the day, we decided to go to the pub. By the time we got there it was pretty cold! Luckily Betsy had the hat.

Al had a sports day earlier on, and was too lazy to change out of his shorts into something warmer. The sight of his skinny white legs emerging from his shorts, shivering and covered in goosebumps as he sat on a damp bench in a pub garden, whilst I drank a pint made me feel like the worst mother in the world!

Here Betsy is demonstrating the 'hip to lip' running tecnique she learnt at athletics club.
