Winding gear
There are still the reminders of previous mining activity in the woods. Today’s walk took us on a circuit past chapels and a chateau up to this old winding gear. The cable attached to the drum was used to send wagons of mineral ore down to the village below. The walk was steep with over 500 metres of ascent but only a little more than 10 kms overall. We watched the numerous butterflies flitting around while we having our mid-morning break. There were just four of us today as a lot of the walking group have other commitments at the moment.
