Allium Sphaerocephalon
York Gate for me this afternoon, really busy, never had a moment for the first two hours.
If you enter the garden from the carpark this is the first view you come across.
The alliums looked stunning intermingled with the cream scabious.
Lots of visitors asked me what they were called and had to admit l didn’t know but if they asked at the plant sales they would.
Later when l did get a quiet moment l did go and find out from one of the experts and of course she knew.
Felt certain l wouldn’t remember the name but she told me to Google Allium Sphere when l came home and it would come up straight away…and it did.
All afternoon there where hundreds of bees enjoying them and at one point l counted twelve butterflies all feasting at once.
No plants are labelled in the gardens because Ben, the head gardener believes they spoil the aesthetic look of the gardens which are still in the style of the private garden it once was.
One of the loveliest things about York Gate is that the gardeners who are always here on site spend lots of time talking to visitors about anything to do with gardening.
Back here on Friday.
