Horseyholiday - West Dean
Back in the mists of lockdown nontime E had a significant birthday for which the family promise a Horsey Day Out when something like reality returned.
E had never been to Hickstead and so asked for that, without realising it was a million miles away. Fast forward some months and we're stealthily organising a short holiday around the aforesaid Horsey Day.
More months later and we've added a B&B night ahead of the Airbnb house the youngsters had booked, mainly to break the journey from Malvern to Brighton, but also to take the opportunity to look round West Dean Gardens.
The gardens surround the Arts and Conservation college (anyone following Blast will be familiar with the site) which is where Es father had trained in horology after retirement. Thus, we knew of the college and gardens but had never visited. More in extras.
Later, having located the farmhouse B&B we went for a bit of a walk and happened across a red kite perched on a fence post - albeit at rather a distance. First time I'd seen one stationary.
