Badger Tales
After a fairly hectic week and two days of long walks I almost cancelled today’s plans, so tempting was a lazy morning with the papers and coffee. So pleased I had the foresight to know I would be have been missing something pretty special.
The event was a story telling session organised by Scottish Badgers and the Scottish Wildlife Trust at New Lanark, and it was to meet up with E who had managed the on one of the first badgers surveys over ten years ago.
Alison Galbraith was delightfully engaging regaling us with badger related folk tales from Japan and Macedonia. There are Scottish stories, however they tend towards viewing badgers negatively and largely celebrate their eradication. The purpose of the session was to counter those misinformed views that are still around today.
The extra blip is an overground nest which increasingly badgers are beginning to use as an alternative to the traditional underground sett.
An absorbing afternoon, and as a bonus I managed to fit in a quick recce for a potential Ramblers walk around the Clyde Falls for later in the summer.
