Rest Day

We got the Metro to the Rodin Museum, which was closed last time we were in Paris and is now suitably re-furbished. After a leisurely coffee in the gardens, we walked over to the Eiffel Tower and then along the river to the Jardin de Tuilleries to scope out a good place to watch the end of the Tour de France later. Along the way we found a nice red-awninged, Les Routiers approved bistro where they served a very fine steaks frites and a more than passable tarte tatin. Then we spent a long, sunny afternoon on a parapet overlooking the course where we got a pretty decent view of the riders as they swept by on all 8 or 9 circuits of the final Paris Stage. It was fairly busy, with a nice, multi-cultural atmosphere and we’d managed to haul over a couple of chairs to mark off our territory. Afterwards, it was a bit of a long trudge out of the gardens, as the crowd had to navigate an exit without using the still-closed Rue de Rivoli, and our planned walk back to Crimee was curtailed when a drink stop at a bar along the way turned into three and we shared an omelette and chips and got the Metro back instead…
