Spot the Mountain Hut

We walked up to the amazingly designed Velan Hut at 2642m this morning. It looks like a boat has been lowered onto the mountain! I was astonished to see it was built in 2003, it looks so modern inside as well as outside. Behind you can see the Glacier of Mont Velan much diminished since I last went to the old hut about 40 years ago. On the other side of the valley is the Valsorey hut (which you can only see if you know where it is) and Mont Combin (extra). Our team of two in second extra, very glad to be at the hut after a relentless 1000m hike.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment on St. Bernard yesterday, Swisspiper will be delighted as she pointed out to me that there weren’t any people around the statue and I quickly took the photo!
