Slow Night at the Pub
This was our view out the window for about two hours this evening. We were at the small animal urgent care with Piper. She was breathing really rapidly, but not panting, just lying down. I called her vet and got an appointment for tomorrow morning, but I got really worried and thought she should be seen sooner. As it turned out, it wasn't a very satisfying visit. The actual vet was only in the room for about 3 minutes and just talked to us (she didn't even touch Piper) and said she would send someone in with a cost estimate for tests she wanted. After another 20 minute wait, a vet tech came in with the estimate. It was $952.00 for a chest x-ray and blood tests, and the "exam" which was $128.00. I said that we wanted to talk to the vet again to ask if she thought she was stable enough to wait until tomorrow. Another 15 minutes went by and the receptionist came in and said she could check us out. I said we were waiting to talk to the vet, and she said that the vet said to tell us that there were "never guarantees" but she thought she would be okay until tomorrow. So, we paid for the "exam" and left. We stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home and all had ice cream. Piper gobbled hers down. Now she's sleeping and her respirations are still around 100. I probably won't get much sleep tonight worrying about her. I'm grateful that we'll see her regular vet in the morning. We trust her, which is a lot more than I can say for the one we saw tonight. We're so hoping that it's nothing serious. She seems fine otherwise.
Thanks to everyone for the stars and hearts on my blips! xx
