Juvenile Common Tern

Today was our first time at Seaforth Nature Reserve, part of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust's portfolio situated at Liverpool Docks. We had to email for a day pass and go to the port police office to collect it before getting to the reserve, but it was worth the hassle. There were still a lot of common terns around along with lots of juveniles, some learning to fish and some still relying on Mum and Dad to feed them, like this one, although it was largely ignored by them to be fair. It seems like this post has been used a lot over the summer.

There were three hides, with one being the main one where all the terns were, and another looking over a dried up pool. I imagine in the winter time there are loads of waders around. Today we saw a few species along with lots of gulls - lapwings, redshanks, oystercatchers, godwits etc, but according to the info signs, there have been lots of rarities visit the reserve over the years too. I think I will look into getting an annual pass so we can dispense with the check-in every time. It's less than half an hour from us.
