In the pink
I spotted this tiny little bee (about half the size of a honeybee) visiting the garden earlier today. I think its one of the Lasioglossum family, but precisely which one of the 33 species I'm not at all sure* - fascinating how its got the antennae swung around behind its head to enable it to get into the tiny little flowers for the nectar.
(*the very helpful people in the UK Bees, Wasp and Ants group tell me that its either Lasioglossum calceatum or L. albipes but without a clearer view of the mouth parts its impossible to distinguish between the two.)
It is been pleasantly warm here today, a very pleasant 22C but it starts to get much warmer tomorrow...
