Temperance Bar

Visited my son in Haslingden and then called in to Rawtenstall this afternoon. This is the temperance bar – Britain’s last original temperance bar.
The temperance movement began in Preston in 1835 during the period of the industrial revolution. Although alcohol was said to be causing the breakdown of family life and industrial productivity amongst the working classes, prohibition was never legalised in Britain. Nevertheless, by the 1890's temperance bars had appeared everywhere. Only one of the original bars survives to this day and this is it. They serve vintage cordials (hot, cold or sparkling), milkshakes, iced floats, mocktails, ice lollies, sweets and cake.

I took part in the Park run at Lytham Hall this morning. For me Saturday is now Parkrunday.
