Intense Concentration
Table Tennis today at the Commonwealth Games. Maybe not quite as exciting as the badminton but still good entertainment. The first match was a Women's doubles between Wales and the top seeds, India. In an earlier round robin stage India had beaten Wales 3 games to 0 but todays match was much closer and Wales edged it 3-1. The concentration on their faces just before each serve was very striking.
Most of the rest of the evening was para table tennis. I was very struck by Felicity Pickard - extra pic - who is the same age as Katie who also lives with Cerebral Palsy. The class she plays in is rated 6-10 for walking disabled but as someone who needs a walking stick, Felicity, rated 6, is at the most disadvantaged end of the class. She could not overcome her opponent today in the Bronze Medal match but did take the first game before losing 3-1. She got a massive cheer from the crowd nonetheless. Later there was a gold for England in the Men's wheelchair final which unsurprisingly also got a massive cheer!
Otherwise a day of gardening and shopping with and for Ruth. Her efforts are already bearing fruit ... well, mostly veg actually :-)
