Nyhavn
Day 2 of our Copenhagen trip began with a leisurely breakfast at our lovely apartment. We then wandered over to Christiansborg Palace to see the parliament building and live out my ‘Borgen’ fantasies. Next up was a visit to the Royal Danish Library, aka the Black Diamond, where we admired the architecture and the views, and enjoyed a coffee outside on the waterfront.
Afterwards, we wandered the streets with no real aim in mind, except to enjoy ourselves and take in the ambiance. Fate led us to the amazing Zanele Muholi exhibition at GL Strand https://glstrand.dk/en/exhibitions/zanele-muholi/ which we’d missed when it was on at the Tate. I had no idea it was on here at the moment! Muholi is one of my favourite photographers so this was an absolute must-see!
Not only were the building and the exhibition a 5-star experience but we also stopped for a delicious lunch in the courtyard which was a gorgeous, tranquil haven, just yards away from the tourist hustle and bustle https://en.glstrand.dk/use-and-hire/the-courtyard.aspx
Then we braved the tourist throng to see the colourful houses and boats at Nyhavn before a stroll through the street food market and then home along the Christianshavn canal.
Another excellent day.
I was lucky enough to see the, mostly, Danish band Dreamers’ Circus a few years ago (you can read my review at www.blipfoto.com/entry/2331566991107688600 ) Here they are with ‘City Gardens’ https://youtube.com/watch?v=kQiTsAMd4sc
