The Hair of the Horse.

Mrs TD does her weekly devotions at The Drum, Riding for the Disabled Association; for penance, she grooms some of the ponies.
In spring, the horse hair is collected and she brings it home to hang on the washing line for the benefit of the nesting birds. The jackdaws are our best customers, but the sparrows and tits also muscle in for their share of this bonanza of bedding material.

Herself has a certificate for long service at The Drum and I now have visions of all the chimneys and eaves in the village being crammed with the stuff which may account for why so few families in the area have a coal fire these days.
