Saida
So we went to the south of Lebanon yesterday (I am back blipping.) We went on Nakbe. Let me just tell you that the farther south you go in Lebanon, the closer you are to Israel, which means that you have a lot more Palestinian refugees. For some reason we decided to head south on Friday (the Holy day) and on Nakbe, which means - DISASTER, and it's the day that the Palestinians were kicked out of Israel. Probably not the day to be foreigners walking around a village which is covered in posters of Yasser Arafat. We decided about half way into the old city that Nakbe was not the day to be alone in Saida.
SO... we went to visit some friends a little more south. Picked up some food, ordered some Pizza and hung out.
I will say that the story of the Palestinians grieves me. As we looked off the back porch of our friends house last night, this is what we saw. A fire at the refugee camp, one of the most famously violent... Is that a compliment?
Needless to say we were blown away by the experience. The village, the culture, the significance of the day. Unbelievable.
The next day, Israeli independence Day. So much conflict.
My blip was taken in an old Phoenician castle, there are so many ruins in Saida and Tyr, but the light in this one blew me away. There were plenty of gorgeous ocean and beach pics, but I just loved this. I can't say why.
