and it's from the old we travel to the new....

There are 1,385,000 hectares of woodland in Scotland.

Conservation, planning, replanting are all vital to one of our greatest natural resources.

Here in the forest, saplings are planted among the fallen trees. The regeneration needs are great, and in theory well controlled by law.

All organic life is subject to the same cycle - the cycle might last a nano-second or a hundred thousand years. It makes no difference. We come to life, we grow, flourish, wane, and die.

My old school (Dumfries Academy) song was the very bright student traditional Gaudeamus...

Gaudeamus igitur
Iuvenes dum sumus.
Post iucundam iuventutem
Post molestam senectutem
Nos habebit humus.

Let us rejoice, therefore,
While we are young.
After a pleasant youth
After a troubling old age
The earth will have us.

So there!
