A Dying Glacier

Hundreds of smaller streams than this are running over the ice surface of the Tsanfleuron Glacier melting it so quickly, exposing the rocky debris and silt, making the surface darker which then absorbs more heat and so the melt accelerates. It is so sad. Glaciologist Mauro Fischer, a researcher at Bern University, said the loss of thickness of the glaciers in the region will be on average three times higher this year compared to the last 10 summers! The extras show more of the rivers in the glacier and the last extra, people and dogs walking a smooth rocky area that was under the glacier maybe only 10 years ago. Sorry to keep going on about this phenomenon, I find it so disturbing as there is nothing we can do to stop it now, the Earth would have to shift on its axis to produce a mini ice age.

Astonished at how many people loved the wasp and bee image yesterday, thank you!
