Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Field

The grasshoppers were leaping everywhere on Baildon Bank and despite their camouflage I managed to catch up with one or two. I think the one pictured is a Field Grasshopper.

I’d had hopes of a Big Day Out but was put off by the prospect of several hours on trains on a very hot day. Instead I stayed local and walked along the Bank to Shipley Glen and then down to Trench Meadows returning via the river, Roberts Park and Salts Mill.

Despite the heat there were a few butterflies about: Small Heath, Wall, Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown, Small Copper, Holly Blue, Common Blue and the whites. Ten different species reflects the variety of habitat en route, from old quarry to woodland, heath and unimproved grassland.
