We were at King’s Cross station quite early this morning ahead of our 8:30am train to Edinburgh. We were a little too early for the lounge - which didn’t open until 8:00am - so we grabbed coffee and a Pret breakfast before we used the space in the lounge to eat it. The train itself departed promptly and the journey uneventful. The food service was OK but the choice wasn’t great given the amount of time we were on the train. Was my small bacon roll was really supposed to last me until gone 1pm? At least in the last hour a glass of wine came out.
It was great to be back in Edinburgh. When we arrived were were far too early to check in to our Premier Inn hotel so we had a Mexican themed lunch in Wahaca on St Andrew Street. It was quite a nice way to pass an hour or so. We ordered from the menu direct to the waiting staff but paid by scanning a QR code on the table and paying my phone. That’s happened in a few places and it aways feels like we’re walking out without paying. The receipt was emailed to me so I know we didn’t.
The off to Jez’s 50th. We missed the venue on first pas but found it quickly enough when we realised we had walked too far. Quite a few people were already there when we arrived. The cake Mum and Dad had arranged was very impressive and, although we had stopped off to buy wine, there was plenty to drink. A bottle of whisky was consumed alongside the wine and bubbly. I drank quite a lot of orange juice which, by the end of the night, was not sitting too well. There was also a visit by an ice cream truck so PY and I both has Oysters, which I don’t think we have seen for very many years, and we bought Oliver a strange, brightly coloured green thing.
