Water lilies

It was thankfully slightly cooler today, but still hot. I took Xena back to the pond in the woods this morning, the water lilies are in bloom and looking rather pretty. There were many dogs swimming in the water trying to cool off there.

After my walk I went grocery shopping, a large section of the supermarket fridges are not working, they have not worked since last week when the temperatures started rising, so I could not get all the things I needed. It should getting cooler from tomorrow, with even some rain forecast. We have not had rain since the beginning of May.

It has been a day of bad things happening. This morning I was contacted by my niece in SA to say that my sister's partner had a stroke early this morning, so I have been phoning my sister throughout the day while she was at the hospital to find out how he is doing. She went to work early this morning and when she could not get hold of him by phone came home again as she was a bit worried about him, and found him collapsed on the kitchen floor. Thank goodness she went home again and found him and could call the ambulance. Not sure what the prognosis is yet, the neurosurgeon says it was a severe stroke and he is in ICU.

Gavin is still training for the marathon and because of the heat he drives to work very early in the morning and then goes for a run around London before he starts work, at about 6.30am. He has had a niggling hamstring pain and this morning he felt it ping and heard it snap. So he had to go to the physio this afternoon.
