Villafranca del Bierzo - Trabadelo - O'Cebreiro
Today's Blip is the view back toward Villafranca that I took after only an hour's climb up into the hills surrounding the town - as you can see the climb was very quick and it left us all rather more tired than expected.
After the long trek the day before none of us really wanted another one, but with an accrued ascent equal to nearly 6km (thanks to two separate climbs of 400m and 800m) this one topped out at 36km in the end and another long day - with our latest finish - arriving in O'Cebreiro at 8pm and experiencing our first stay in a Xunta - a government run hostel with about thirty beds to a room!
The reason it took us a bit longer than planned (other than the first climb out of the valley) was the most excellent bar to be found in Trabadelo, El Puente Peregrino. Run by a Dutch-Spanish chap called Santiago, it was a most amazing little bar that gave us all a well deserved snack after the walk through the hills and was a very relaxing atmosphere - if you're ever there, make sure you drop in!
