Melon!!

A decent size melon, grown outside in the UK.

The conditions have obviously been right: planted 2cm away from the compost heap (= access to rich, moist soil) plus scorching summer temperatures.

But the reason I'm so amazed is because I sowed the seeds *very* late. I thought I'd miss the boat yet again.

The cultivar is 'Mangomel'. Recommended by RHS Hyde Hall. 

Sorry Guinean pigs! (every year in late September, my friend's Guinea pigs absolutely love munching the tiny melons that haven’t done well)
