Rock sculpture

It was an energetic exciting day today.  My husband first walked in the peak district when he was in the Boy Scouts so many years ago.  He hadn't returned since then and I hadn't been before.  So Kinder Scout was the walk today and one he would have walked.  We started at Edale walking along the heather clad valley of Grinsbrook Booth and then scrambling and climbing up the steep narrow gorge of Grinsbrook Clough with small waterfalls around us.  We eventually arrived at the top of Kinder Scout where it was much more breezy and the weather clouded over.  It was much easier walking along the ridge pathway at the top with glorious views around us.  There were a number of other walkers out and also a number of runners in a race.  As we continued on our route we came across a very large number of millstone rocks of such different shapes.  I could have spent all day just photographing them.  Some were surround by heather and other vegetation and in places the underlying soil was exposed ie the peat which was incredibly thick, in the order of a metre.  We continued around the top until we reached the point where the Pennine Way intersects and started our descent back to the south.  Finding a sheltered spot we stopped for our lunch with views of the sweeping curves of the hills running steeply downwards.  After lunch we continued our long descent heading towards Jacobs Ladder and back to Edale.  We thoroughly enjoyed our tea and cake in a small cafe by the railway station.

A lovely walk with so much to see.  In the evening we visited a local Indian restaurant enjoying a great meal.
