Farewell Brian

In Winchester, today was the funeral of my wife’s elder brother. I must have first met him nearly 50 years ago as his younger brother was a school friend and last at our daughter’s wedding in 2021.

Today was an event full of memories, sadness, respect and humour. His love of black marble clocks, order and labelling, his family, “tree and hedge management” on his grounds and his passion for cars all shone through.

Indeed, on his coffin was his driving hat and this mock up of the numberplate of his favourite car as in the blip.

He was an individual man. Bright, intelligent, humorous, passionate, direct and intellectually challenging but also kind and loving. Tributes from one of his long-standing clients about his work on team leadership cast a new angle on him. For much of his working life he travelled far and wide on consultancy work and we did not really get to learn of that side of his life. He was clearly respected in his field.

As is usually the case such events bring together family members from far and wide and despite the circumstances it was good to meet up as well as reminisce. RIP.
