Bb's t-shirt

Bb commented to me today that it was the first time in ages that he'd worn this t-shirt.

It made me think of the story my private student told me.  Goes like this and the scene in is China at a stand where you can buy messages, sayings etc in Chinese script. He and his wife were on holiday.

My student E: that one please (pointing)
Chinese Stall Owner: ok
E: And one of those (pointing) please.
Stall Owner: ok
E: And that one there (pointing)
Stall Owner: shaking his head, 'No'
E: offers a bit more cash
Stall Holder: laughing, another 'No'
E: offers a bit more
Stall Holder: a crowd has now gathered,  all laughing. 'No'.
E:  last offer,  he thinks,  and ups his offer.
Stall Holder: Much more laughter,  but he takes down the lettering E wants and hands it over, counts the cash, still laughing.

Back at his hotel, he tells the story to the tour guide, who can speak Chinese and English, and asks why this last one was more expensive. The tour guide laughs and says, 'you just bought the address sign of his stall!'  I asked E what he did with the sign. 'Framed it and hung it above our bed', he said, laughing. I like his attitude.

We actually sent a pic of Bb's t-shirt to a contact in Cairo, asking him what it said. 'Aswan'  came the reply!
