Blow out
We went to Tate Britain to see Walter Sickert and Cornelia Parker. Excellent. WS was a bit boho for his time, hung out in music halls and painted the working classes with their legs open and fags in their mouths, all this between Queen Vic and WWII. CP is a modern agent provocateur who flattens silverware with steam rollers and blows up sheds full of shit before reassembling everything in weird configurations. Got modern Britain sussed for what it is - a nation that is blaming everyone else for its problems and refusing therapy.
We had beer and fast vegan food in the new Brew Dog bar at Waterloo afterwards. Massive place. They have an ice cream van, a slide and about 20 different beers. Vegan burgers excellent, vegan buffalo wings not so good.
In other news ...
Today is UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. The comfort most of us enjoy today is built in part on this historical trafficking in human beings that made Britain a wealthy nation. Take a moment to reflect on that. It’s not just about statues and plundered artefacts. It’s about our history as a nation and our willingness to understand the wrongs we have done and still benefit from.
