Dragonflies in Laide wood

We enjoyed two outings today. The first was to the Russian Arctic convoy museum in Aultbea. This tells the story of the efforts to transport vital supplies to the Russians during World War II after they took the offensive against Hitler. Loch Ewe played a key role in this as the departure point for the merchant ships and the vessels that protected their voyage.

After lunch in the café at the perfume studio, we drove back to Laide for a woodland walk. This was far less demanding than yesterday's stomp across the moorland: I didn't even need my poles. Along the very well-marked track we saw many dragonflies. The two in my blip are a black darter (left), and the other a common darter (right). I have also included in the extras a view of some of the beautiful trees in the wood.

The views from the cottage continue to entertain us. In the other extra I have included a shot of the bay from breakfast-time today.

We have played another game of Azul. It looks like Mr hazelh has discovered some winning tactics, but he is reluctant to share them with me. It's Carcassonne all over again (see 2020!)

Exercise today: small amount of walking.
