Surround Sounds

9:30am this morning was Tallis REsounds in The Chapter House. The violinist, her mum (who I'd unknowingly been chatting to earlier) and trumpeter fiancee in the main.

Five vocalists, from soprano to bass, a trumpeter and violinist formed a heptagonal circle in the epicentre of us echoing the seven walled windows of the octagonal room.

READ THIS IF NOTHING ELSE - BREATHTAKING..
Both the violin and trumpets made noises I'd never heard before.
The bow barely moved sometimes, making quiet screech type sounds; you could only hear a flow of air from the trumpet at one point, transcending from me thinking I'm sure I can hear a flow of air from somewhere, when the tone was louder.  As the peace drifted away towards completion, the sound of the church bells striking 10am could be heard; no accident.

The performance, described as "responses and improvisations on Thomas Tallis was tailored especially for the small enclosed space and acoustics of The Chapter House. Speaking to both instrumentalists later, they said that they couldn't normally play in such a way, because the audience wouldn't be able to hear it.

Just breathtaking
