Tanked up
This should have been the Steam Gala weekend on the railway, with several different engines pulling lots of trains for passengers, enthusiasts and photographers. However, a couple of weeks ago it was postponed until October due to the fire risk; the engines would all have been working hard so much more chance of them causing lineside fires. As it has turned out, the rain over the last few days has reduced the risk but it was the right decision to make. This engine, number 4270, an ex GWR 2-8-0T tank engine was hired in from the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway for the weekend but is running anyway, and I went over to Holt station this morning to see it coming in on its first official run on the line hauling empty coaches which were to form the first train of the day.
Apologies for two steam train blips in two days. However, there may be more; I may well try and catch this engine again at a different part of the line where it is working harder.
