First aubergine

I've been waiting and waiting to pick the first aubergine - the plants have looked enticing for a while but I always think I should let them bulk up a bit more. 

But today I went to the plot after a morning swim to harvest veg for lunch and there weren't many tomatoes and no cucumber big enough so I thought I'd just pick an aubergine and a couple of courgettes, which were excellent chargrilled with homemade sourdough and a tahini spread.

It's brilliant when the allotment gives you ready-to-eat fresh food!
