More potatoes

Last year our neighbour gave us some of these Pink Fir Apple potatoes to try and we liked them a lot. I had bought them occasionally in Sainsbury’s but these tasted much better. This year Gordon decided to grow some and we now have a big crop.

I found out that it is an old French variety and was known in the 19th century. However, they went out of favour, most likely because they are impossible to peel. Around the year 2000 they suddenly became popular. I wonder if this was because we were all realising that potatoes were easier to cook and better if they were not peeled.

Anyway we certainly don’t attempt to peel them and they are delicious. And leftovers make excellent potato salad or fry up in a little oil . . . which is what Gordon is doing at this moment.
