Wild Sunflowers!
In the spring, in our part of the world, all the gravel that has been set out during winter is swept up. If it comes from public roads and pavements it's removed, but if it's been on a carpark or similar it may be just piled up in a corner. This pile is next to a small car workshop where young guys (and so far it is just guys) work on their cars for driving or racing.
Surprisingly often these gravel piles have sunflowers growing out of them. The seeds come from winter bird-feeders and get swept up with the gravel. I guess the seeds that are just the right distance from the surfaceof the pile germinate, and these giant wild flowers appear. (I rather like the idea that these "tough" young men also feed the birds outside their workshop!)
A little magic garden!
When I got home after election work (and taking this photo) Munroist and Ian had arrived in their camper. We had a lovely evening with lots of conversation and good food, but I didn't take any pictures!
