Ladies Who Lunch (and then some)

Another beautiful day dawned in North Wales and we fuelled up on a bumper breakfast at the Portmeirion Hotel before spending a relaxing morning in the village. By lunchtime we were unaccountably hungry again so we headed just up the road to Criccieth for a delicious meal at Dylan’s, housed in a gorgeous Art Deco building designed by Portmeirion’s architect Clough Williams Ellis https://dylansrestaurant.co.uk/restaurant/locations/criccieth I particularly enjoyed my seitan bao buns followed by raspberry and lemon posset!

We burned off a paltry couple of calories with a post-prandial stroll along the prom before returning to our Portmeirion lodgings where we whiled away a pleasant couple of hours enjoying the view and doing the crossword before taking a picnic down to the beach and watching the tide come in as dusk descended.

Here you see M reclining at The Portmeirion Hotel, overlooking the terrace on which Siouxsie and The Banshees can be seen performing their 1987 cover of Iggy Pop’s ‘The Passenger’ in this video https://youtube.com/watch?v=rpLKlIUeCzM

Five years earlier, Altered Images had been in the village too, to make the video for ‘See Those Eyes’ https://youtube.com/watch?v=oSf1v3YWudo

Fast forward to 1995, when Supergrass also used the location for the video to accompany their monster hit ‘Alright’ https://youtube.com/watch?v=qUE4oDunYkc

Honestly, it’s practically the epicentre of British pop culture!!
