Knottman’s guide to ferns, Part 6.
Oak Fern ( Gymnocarpium dryopteris ).
A delicate deciduous fern found throughout most of the northern hemisphere.
Not to be confused with Limestone Oak Fern which I blipped last week.
This small fern grows mainly in woodland but not exclusively near Oaks. Its unusual feature is that the main stem grows vertically from the ground and then the fronds go off horizontally.
The extra shows it growing happily in our garden.
