Sound waves

Sometimes in this corner of the Cotswolds it’s easy to warp time. The soundtrack to this afternoon was the unmistakable exhaust beats from a slowly accelerating steam locomotive pulling its train towards Cheltenham Racecourse station.

In the near distance the Bugatti Owners’ Prescott Hill Climb practice session engines were ricocheting off the wooded slopes with intermittent rips of sound that only high performance motorsports car engines make.

Meanwhile, on my plane tracking app, I was watching the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster bomber circling west of Malvern preparing for its fly past at Prescott.

I was not expecting it to approach so low! Its four propeller engines powering this vintage aircraft, just over the rooftops, was a truly impressive sight and sound.

A sight that also brought my late parents’ war time reminiscences flooding back. I do wonder what they would make of what is happening in today’s geopolitical world.
