Close Neighbours

It was a very sociable dook this morning as I joined 10 other ladies at 8am in the sea on another damp grey morning. We had a bounce about in a choppy sea as I tried and failed to remember all of their names.

It was a day for a coffee in Julia’s and then  a visit to the library with arguably the best view in Scotland. I only left when I was in danger of falling asleep on the sofa in the stillness and quietness.

With the weather improving by the hour,  the world took on a rosier hue, but there was still a strong easterly breeze blowing. I actually felt brave enough to go for a walk after lunch without my raincoat and passing EllyJay’s house I was met by her at her front door, she had seen me on the roadway. We ambled up to the Ness to say hello to her husband who was doing a seal count for some research project on overfishing…..(I think!).

We sat outside in her garden and out of the wind, which is actually mild, and it felt quite Mediterranean.

Now there is even a bit of blue sky showing through the clouds and a ray of sunshine on the garden, although Orphir and Graemsay on my horizon are still sheltering behind a grey, misty veil.

I’m sure there must be a story behind the proximity of these two Stromness houses in my blip and the reason for their shape.
