Footbridge by I.K.Brunel
Eastcliff Walk Bridge at Teignmouth with a local train on its way to Dawlish and Exeter.
It's the Wide on Wednesday challenge hosted by steveng and the topic for this week is the 'Built Environment'. I went to Eastcliff in Teignmouth where this beautiful bridge dating from the 19th century stands. Brunel had great idea for an 'atmospheric railway' which worked by a pump sucking air out of a tube which pulled a piston attached to the train. It all sounds a bit dicey but it worked very well until rats gnawed at the leather etc. It's mostly diesel trains now, just the occasional steam powered loco and they're generally more reliable.
