Life looks the same

Life looks the same - but it doesn't feel it!
Yesterday was normal - we came back from doggy park (soaking wet), I put the TV on while getting my lunch, Bargain Hunt was on. Then suddenly it wasn’t  -  there was a newsflash ‘The Queen’s doctors are concerned….’
Instantly I was 11 years old , at school, waiting for our usual radio schools’ programme to start at 11am on 6th February 1952. The radio was switched on a few minutes early to allow it to ‘warm up’, we usually got the tail end of the previous lesson but this day there was solemn music. Then the sound of Big Ben at 11 followed by a deep male voice announcing
‘This is London. It is with the greatest sorrow that we make the following announcement.
”‘It was announced from Sandringham at 10.45 today February the 6th 1952 that the King, who retired to rest last night in his usual health, passed peacefully away in his sleep earlier this morning.”
The BBC offers profound sympathy to her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.
The BBC is now closing down for the rest of the day except for the advertised news bulletins and summaries, shipping forecasts and gale warnings. Further announcements will be made at 11 45,12 o'clock and 12.15 p.m’
And that was it - no 24 hour broadcasting and  instant news like we get now. Few people outside London even had TV in early 1952 - it was a different world!
Another date and time to remember for the rest of my life - 12.40, Thursday 8th September 2022 - then at 6.30pm it was confirmed that the Queen had died.
