Breath of Heaven

On our street, an eye-catching shrub now in full bloom. This is a Diosma ericoides ‘Sunset Gold’ (commonly known as Breath of Heaven).

I am wondering about the name. The flowers don’t smell, but when you rub the leaves together there’s a subtle herbaceous aroma. Pleasant enough, yes, and not much like anything else, although I think there’s a slight suggestion of basil. 

It’s not what I imagine Heaven to smell like, but then again, who knows?
