Nairn
It was a warm and sunny day in Nairn. In our amble around town we spotted this post box with a ‘topper’ made by the Yarnbombers Nairn. These had been knitted and placed around town to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee earlier this year. Some of those items have been brought together on a new base to recognise the passing of the Queen this week.
I was impressed by the Nairn Road Runners sculpture at the start of King Street.
A few miles out of town is Cawdor Castle, a 14th century fortress built by the Thanes of Cawdor. Many people recognise this from Shakespeare’s play Macbeth which was written in 1623. In the play, the three witches greeted Macbeth with the prophecies “Hail Macbeth Thane of Glamis…… Thane of Cawdor ….. and that shalt be King thereafter.” Interesting castle and lovely gardens.
Before we set off for the day we decided to watch on the BBC News the Proclamation Ceremony for King Charles where the Accession Council gather in an official ceremony to name the new monarch. It’s the first time that this normally private occasion has been televised live.
