Proclamation of New Sovereign
At 1pm today, thousands of people gathered together in the Quarry in Shrewsbury to hear The High Sheriff of Shropshire read the proclamation of the succession of our new king - Charles III. It was very moving.
Here is a photo of our town crier - Martin Wood who was present at the event. He has been our town crier since 1984.
For those reading this overseas, here is what a town crier does.
The history of Town Criers
It was the job of the crier or bellman to inform the townspeople of the latest news, proclamations, bylaws and any other important information, as at this time most folk were illiterate and could not read.
