Change of mode

We had today at leisure so we swapped our coach travel for a morning on the Manx Electric Railway.

We made our way to Laxey with fine views of the coast and then changed to the Snaefell Summit Railway which took us to the summit of Snaefell, the highest point of the island.

On a clear day, you can see Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales as well as the Isle of Man. Today was not a clear day.

However the ride was fun and we did see the Laxey wheel in action.

On our return to Douglas we visited the Manx Museum which gave us a good overview of the history of the Island from pre-historic times onward, include a link with the Dukes of Atholl, who briefly owned the island.

We walked back via the station  (but didn't have time for steam train ride), Clarke Street (where a brother of  great great great grandmother could be found in 1901 - he was a confectioner) and then the Tynwald.

Now relaxing in hotel before our final dinner.

It's been an interesting few days with an insight into a different island community.
