Water feature, and much more.

The regeneration of a local park is pretty much complete. It was showcased to the public at the end of August. The transformation is quite amazing. The tired old 45 acre park is totally revitalised, and it’s looks great. This is the new water feature, by next year the vegetation will be established and wildlife developing.

This regeneration hasn’t happened overnight. Planning by a “Friends Group” started in 2012. There’s been a lot community discussion, and interest and involvement. The project has cost in the region of £2.5m. The Local Authority and National Lottery contributed £1.7m and other grants were secured from many Scottish Government agencies, industry in the area, and community fundraising etc. It feels like a combination of overarching and specific project monies, eg restoring the fountain, redesigning the garden, new bike pump track (£50,000 Sport Scotland ), new play area (with inclusive section), a simple public performance area, revamped tennis courts, refurbished and extended war etc memorial, large lovely wild flower zones; with business too - improved bike hire and food takeaway, etc. And major infrastructure on paths, landscaping, seating etc. It feels like sport, leisure, inclusion, and nature all captured.
