Wells Cathedral ...

... which we visited today on a foray via local buses from Bristol.  The origins of the cathedral go back to around AD 705, when King Ina of Wessex built the first church, of which "only a few traces remain ... By 1175 the present building began to arise in the new, Early-English Gothic style," and its development proceeded from there. We had time for a thorough visit and a good lunch in the cafe.
