Bath
Caught the train this morning to Bath where we were met by, Serpentine!, another blipper, and sister in law of Alice's. She kindly has picked us up and shown us around Bath.
We went on the double decker bus around the city to get an insight, and then walked around the streets. Amazing the huge places with all their levels, and built so close together. Would not like an earthquake to happen here. The buildings can not be changed in anyway, without consent, as they are all listed under the historical heritage.
Jane Austin wrote many stories talking about Bath. It is not hard to visualise her here, with their large crinolines, and parasols.
We went to the Pump Room, where you could take the mineral waters, which has 40 different minerals. Apparently it does not taste that nice. The top left picture is a dining room now, but that was where they took the waters, there is a fountain on the far side, and beautiful chandelier in the centre of the room.
In the same building, we looked out through a window, at where people used to come to take the hot mineral baths. The water used to be much higher, up to the rusty mark. there were rings that they could hold onto. There was a life saver with a stick close by to pull out anyone in trouble. The bottom left picture is of people dancing in the Assembly Rooms, in the Pump Room Buildings. This is where the residents came to socialise. To be seen and to see who was about. They wore their best finery of course.
The bottom right corner is of a girl in gold, and she had incredibly blue eyes, that I had to take her photo.
