Spain

It's thanks to digitaldaze that we now have a photograph of Spain in our collection of places mentioned by Lorna Lloyd in her Diary of the war. This shot is of Barcelona taken from Montjuï, just above Plaza España and the magic fountains in Barcelona.

Lorna only mentions Spain directly twice in her diary, both times with reference to atrocities that took place before the war. On 5th September 1939 she refers to the 'prolonged martyrdom of Spain' - presumably to those killed for their faith by Republicans during the Spanish Civil. On 14th November 1940 she compares that days air raid on Coventry during the Blitz on the bombing of Guernica in 1937. The episodes of our podcast series for each of these mentions are Episode 1, and Episode 7.

We still have several more pictures to collect for this blipfoto journal, including shots to represent some other European countries in general, i.e. without reference to a particular town or city. If you can supply a picture of Belgium, Denmark Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, or Sweden, please do send it to h.hall@napier.ac.uk.  Thank you!
